About this event
8 miles, 1950’ gain?
The first two miles in and out are to the shiprock. Some very narrow trail segments with beautiful cliff side views along the river. Also majestic vistas of the Virgin River Gorge and colorful rocky peaks all around. the ship rock itself is fun to explore and scrabble around. there is a new ladder that facilitates access to the higher sections, if you’re adventurous. there has been lots of work on this trail in the last year and it is much improved. no more losing the route. this is a minimally strenuous and very fun route.
the trail continues beyond shiprock. i’ve never been farther, but I hear there is another formation called the submarine. we will search for it until we are satisfied, or until the route gets too rough, or we hit the 4 mile mark. then retrace our steps past the shiprock, to the cars. might be shorter than 8 miles, but we shall see what we can find beyond the known world in the Hunt for Red October!
I will wait until five minutes after, if not everyone is present. After that you will need to catch up. All times listed are utah time, MDT. Sorry, but STG social hikes are not dog friendly. Come enjoy some exercise and good conversation on the trail!
Notice: Meetup organizers are not tour guides. Everyone hikes at their own risk.
