24 at Barlow Ranch to raise funds for Kevin Pratt, who was diagnosed Sept. 9 with HPV-associated squamous cell carcinoma; the 5 p.m. event featured a pit-cooked meal, raffle and ongoing shirt sales (Cowboy Style) to help cover his treatment.

Several family-friendly events take place today: Wands & Witches Storytime, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Mesquite Library; a SafeNest luncheon fundraiser, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CasaBlanca Resort; and the Hills Have Eyes 5K and fun run, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sports and Events Complex.

On Thursday, Oct. 29 a Red Cross blood drive runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library.
